I had to take in to account pinion angle, shock location, suspension caster due to the pinion angle as well as space limitation and the actual location of the mounting holes. I have 1/2" an inch clearance between the top of the rotor and the cross bars, no problem. The brake calipers mount in the front, away from the cross bars, no problem. the parking brake mechanism mounts on top of the caliper and sticks up past the top of the differential housing, BIG PROBLEM!!! I may be good at solving problems, but in this case there is no way I can have the man support beams and the brake hardware occupying the same space. I don't know anyone that is that good  I really like the simplicity of my mounting design so I do not want to change it. So now I have to figure out the best solution for my parking brake. At this point I have fore options:

1. Don't run one, I never use it anyway
2. Buy a pinion parking brake kit
3. Relocate the OEM jag parking brake components to the back side of the rotor and secure them to a custom mounting bracket on the crossmember.
4. Move the brakes outboard using XJ 40 parts

At this point I am leaning to option 3 with option 2 being a fall back position. I guess it is time to start thinking  If you have any good ideas... or even bad ones for that matter, I would love to here them


If it isn't broken..... modify it anyway!!!!

I do not want to do it that way. What I want is to keep it simple and not use a mounting plate that relies on a weld alone to keep it in place. instead I want the diff to bolt directly to the cross bars and with the current cross bars a 2.5" bolt will do the trick, but if I go through two thicknesses of rectangular tubing I would be looking at a 4" bolt which I think is to long. The parking brake bracket only sticks up about .5" to far, so worst case scenario (If I can't get them to relocate) I will notch the support beams and box in the cut out. I am planning on running a large quarter inch plate across the top of the support brackets so that should compensate for any strength lost by notching the cross bars.
