I know mine were a pain in the but to remove, and I have never seen a retrofit unit running them, so what do you think leave them off, or reuse them, and why???
I am going to pitch mine, but thought it would be interesting to get other opinions and find out what you guys think.

According to my shaft shop, these u-joints are the same .........
as used on some driveshafts. There are no cones on driveshafts so why should they be on my IRS. I toughed they are against dirt and not because of the heat!?!?!?!?
Anyhow I won't use them.

I was told, that they serve two purposes, the first is as a dust shield, and the second...
is as a heat shield. There is some concern that the heat off of the rear disc brakes could affect u-joint life. Don't know if there is any truth to that but it is something to think about.

OK lets say that the inners are there for .........
the heat issue (I doubt that is), what are the outer ones for?
I'm sure that I read on GB ebay that they are for dirt/dust protection purpose which makes more sense to me.
Anyhow, I crapped them!

no sense in retooling. if one is for heat and dust and the other is just for dust... it would make sense to design a part to serve dual purpose. If it was just just I would think it would be made of rubber instead of metal. Either way I still don't think they are that important.

I plan to toss them on my build, here's why. They are not just for dust. I had a chance to talk to a fellow computer engineer from Irland. He's a European gear head! Anyway, he told me that in Europe and England a lot of the roads are not paved. The sheilds are there to keep small rocks from bouncing in there are damaging the u-joints. So if you plan on driving on unpaved roads you may want the keep them. Otherwise, file 13.
