Re: Where can I get my Maserati IRS axles and Lower Control Arms Shortened

I did some measurements today.  It seems my Maserati rear end is 62.5 inches wide!  The manual says it should be 60.5".  The center section is approximately 16.5" wide from where the half shafts bolt up to the center section.  The LCA/half shafts seem to be 23" from wheel hub to where it bolts up to the center section.

How wide is the Jag center section?

wow, this is an interesting rear end, loooks Jag, but notice the handbrake is under the calliper, can we change callipers from left to right to do the same things? mayb make it easy for custom crossmembers, might save the hassle of having to notch them to clear the handbrake? also notice the compression springs in the handbrake instead of the external flat type spring to keep the handbrake pads open. would love to find some disc rotors like that to

Good spot on the calipers.  when I looked at the pictures originally I was more interested in the rotors and didn't even notice the calipers.  If you can find rotors like that please let me know I would love to get a set.

Re: Where can I get my Maserati IRS axles and Lower Control Arms Shortened

I've finally jump started this project.  I now know that the rear end is interchangeable with the Jag unit.  It's a Salisbury 4HU.   The LCA brackets are different but the bolt pattern is the same so I can use Jag axles and LCA's once I get them shortened.  I'd like to use the Maserati brake set-up but it may prove too wide for my install.  I may have to swap the Jag brakes over which is a bummer because the vented rotors and calipers are really cool.

I'm having all the work on mine done by Curt Hamilton.  He's a Jag guru located in Van Nuys California.  He's going to get everything set-up to 49" wheel flange to flange.

I was really hoping you would find replacement rotors because I would love to upgrade to the better rotors!!!  If you are looking for a set of OEM Jag rotors I have a set I may be willing to sell for cheep.

Re: Where can I get my Maserati IRS axles and Lower Control Arms Shortened

I think you could probably find the rotors but then you'd need the special calipers too.   I can't use any of the stuff on my car so I'm going to end up selling the whole outfit once my Jag rear is complete.  Hopefully somebody can put it to good use.

Re: Where can I get my Maserati IRS axles and Lower Control Arms Shortened

The calipers are a piece of cake.  The jag calipers split down the middle so simply use the stock units and add a spacer between the two haves and you can make the OEM calipers fit on thicker rotors.  when you first showed your rear end I searched for rotors and couldn't find any.  If you know where I could get some, I am all ears.

Re: Where can I get my Maserati IRS axles and Lower Control Arms Shortened

I haven't searched for the rotors.  When I get them back I'll see if I can find part numbers for you.  If you're looking for a set you could try a Maserati parts specialist.

Also changing the rotors is going to increase your track width a little.  It adds up to more than just the extra width of the 7/8 rotors because the rotor hubs seem to be a little different too.  I think it was an extra inch or more.  The calipers do have a spacer as you mentioned but these are three piston calipers.  Not sure if that makes a difference or not.

Re: Where can I get my Maserati IRS axles and Lower Control Arms Shortened

Any luck finding replacement rotors?

BTW, those calipers look like the 3-piston calipers found on the Jaguar XJ6 Series I (SI) and early Series II (SII) cars.  The only difference I can see is that the Jaguar calipers had internal passages instead of crossover pipes.  Maybe that has something to do with the spacers?

Also, the SI cars had a solid front rotor - not sure of the thickness.  The SII cars used a vented front rotor with a thickness 15/16".
