A Story I Was Told About Jim Downing

A co-worker told me he had worked for Jim Downing of the Hans Device, patent holder. He also raced Mazdas and he is from the ATL.

Anyhow when they manufactured suspension parts for the racers. The Heims were fitted within a .001 tolerance slip fit. The opposing spacer had to be a very specific angle and diameter at the Heims. He was not sure what it was.

When they transported between races the roads they traveled were mapped. And every attempt was made to stay on the smoothest roads as to not bounce the cars in the trailers. Is that anal? Maybe you have some stories you've heard.

The Mitty here in ATL is an event you must see. Awesome cars, three days. Racers from all eras. The Petit Le Mans I have not seen yet, also supposed to be a good one.

Panoz another ATL company bought Road ATL. The Mitty has 7 lap races all day, fielding cars and bikes by class.
