Daze, our discussions regarding spindles and what years interchange left me with questions regarding the number of sites on the web that state yes they do, no they don't. I am always cautious regarding statements without supporting source facts ... who, what, where, etc. So when you stated Hollander as your source I immediately ran that up to the factual information category. But it still didn't answer how/why there are so many sites out there in disagreement, some of them reputable sites.
I was scrolling through e-bay and came across an auction for a pair of spindles for a 67 mustang. They listed the part numbers on the spindles as C6OA-3107 and C6OA-3108 and that's when it clicked ... part numbers should eliminate all questions. I purchased a set of discs that have wiring diagrams and a master ford parts catalog about a month ago. The master catalog is some 3000 pages in pdf format and shows copyright 1967 Ford Motor Company Dearborn, Michigan. It covers 60 - 67 Fairlane, Falcon, T-bird, Galaxie, Mustang and Bronco. It has illustrations for every nut and bolt on the vehicle along with part numbers for every part.
Here's what it shows ...
60-65 Falcon, 65-66 Mustang 6cyl manual steering 4 bolt config Spindle P/N's 3107/3108 LH/RH
65 Falcon, 65-66 Mustang 8cyl manual and P/S 5 bolt config Spindle P/N's 3105/3106 LH/RH
67 Mustang All Spindle P/N's 3105/3106
There are other vehicles that show the 3105/3106 spindles but for our discussion it didn't make sense to list them all
I am going to stick my head under the fender again on my car to see if I can find a P/N on the spindle. Maybe you could tell me where to look on the spindle??

one word, overlap... First the spindles on a 60 falcon through a 80 granada, including mustang (not Mustang II) , cougar, and all the other cars that share similar suspension design are "interchangeable". when I say "interchangeable" I do not mean the same. 60-66 have one suspension geometry and 67-80 have a slightly altered one. I have studied this in great detail because of the debate about weather Granada disc case problems on a 60-66 cars. It is well documented and established that granada discs are a direct bolt on with no changes in suspension geometry for the 67 and up cars.
The reason some 67s have the early stile spindle is because ford liked to use up old parts until they are gone. the part #s you gave me are clearly 66 spindles C6OA-3107 and C6OA-3108. If they were 67 spindles the part # would have started with C7.
Just because ford did it on some cars doesn't make it right. the only difference in the suspension parts on a 67 and 68 Mustang is the strut rod and LCAs. Functionally they are completely identical and interchangeable as a set. the difference is how the LCA and strut rod attache to each other and thats why they have to be a matched set.

If what I have is correct and I have no reason to believe that it is not then the part numbers C6OA-3107 and C6oa-3108 are for 65-66 mustang 6 cyl only. The 65-66 mustang 8 cyl would have part numbers C6OA-3105 and C6OA-3106. We know that Ford was using parts from other cars to build the mustang ... what if these were designed based on different cars with different wheel bases and Ford just didn't care or know?

instead of c6 as they were cast in 65. I have the spindles in my garage from a 65 to prove it Ford was pretty good about changing part # each ear to reflect the date of manufacture, until the mid to late 70s and then they started carrying more casting # over multiple years.
