So here is an interesting thought, a Jaguar IRS unit installed on a no

I received an email from some one with a jag that came from the factory with a live axle rather than IRS. He was asking how hard it would be to make it fit. Not being familiar with the underside of his particular car I could not give him much of an answer, but I would think it would, in some ways be easier. I don't know just thought it was an interesting thought.

Wow Did the author say what year and model? The only Jags I know of with live axles were from the fifty's and earlier.

It was a Jaguar Mark II 1960. I invited him to the forum, I hope he chimes in... with more info and some pictures as I find the hole thing very fascinating.

Very interesting, that is the XJ40 IRS unit with outboard disc already. I find it interesting...
that Jaguar ditched the cage at the same time it went to outboard discs. The biggest problem with the inboard discs was getting past the cage to get to them. Here is a picture of one from an X308 which is almost the same as the XJ40

Daze, XJS's from 1993 - 1996 (Ithink) ................. had a cage and the outboard discs. There is one shown on the wikipedia IRS page as reference.

Thanks for the info. I know the IRS from the XJS... was basically unchanged for most of their years of production. It is interesting to see it with outboard disc brakes. I took tat picture and posted it to the outboard disc brake thread.
